Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 August 2026
Cancer Convo ("we", "us") is an Australian app that helps people going through cancer share updates and coordinate support with the people they choose. Privacy isn't a feature of this app — it's the point of it. This policy explains what information we hold, why, and the control you have over it, in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles.
What we collect
Account details — your name and email address, used to create and secure your account and to send the small number of emails described below.
What you choose to add — updates, photos, mood check-ins, help requests, and (if you use the My Health features) appointments, medications, medical notes and diagnosis details. Some of this is health information, which Australian law treats as sensitive. We store it only so the app can show it to you and to the people you've chosen; we never use it for anything else.
Technical information — if the app crashes, an error report (without your content) helps us fix it. Usage analytics record the shape of activity (which screen, how long), never the content — no names, diagnoses or medication names are ever logged.
Who can see your information
Only the people you let in. Your Circle works on invitation codes and your explicit approval, with four access levels you control — from a Carer who can see everything, to acquaintances who see only what you choose to share. Nobody joins without your yes, and you can change or remove anyone's access at any time.
We never sell your information, never share it with advertisers, and never use it to build profiles. There are no ads in Cancer Convo.
Who helps us run the service
Like most apps, we rely on a small number of service providers to operate: secure cloud database hosting (Supabase), email delivery (Resend), and crash reporting (Sentry). Each receives only what's needed to do its job, and none may use your information for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
For as long as you keep your account. If you close your account, your information disappears from the app immediately and is permanently deleted after 90 days — we send one reminder email a week before that happens, in case you've changed your mind. After the 90 days, it's gone for good.
Your rights
You can access and correct your information in the app at any time, export your data from Settings, and delete your account entirely. If you have a privacy question or complaint, email support@cancerconvo.com.au — and if you're not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
A few honest notes
- Cancer Convo is not a medical device and doesn't provide medical advice. Review any medical information with your doctor.
- The app is intended for adults. Supporters of any age join only by a patient's invitation and approval.
- If this policy changes, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect.
